Contract base Coffee Table in Slate by Charles & Ray Eames, Herman Miller 1960s
The contract base was released in 1957 as part of the Alu Group range of furniture. The Eames Contract Base Coffee Tables and Dining Tables used a common base type with a large variation of table tops.
Most of the tops are not very attractive, being finished in laminate plastic. But later, natural stones were added to the range, onyx, marble and slate as this example.
The table is in great state, the chrome finish is just damaged on a small area of one of the legs of the base - see photograph.
