Cocoon Flush ceiling light, Friedel Wauer for Goldkant Leuchten, 1960s

Cocoon lamp, design by Friedel Wauer. Manufactured by Goldkant Leuchten, Germany in the 1960s.

A thin steel framework covered with sprayed resin, which gives a Fiberglass look. The translucent resin gives a beautiful soft light effect. A great example of mid-century modern lighting design.

The ‘cocoon’ technology has been developed by the German Friedel Wauer, who discovered a mechanical way to cover a steel mesh by imitating the "self-coiling" of the silkworm.

Many designers as George Nelson, Pier & Achille Castiglione and Tobia Scarpa were fascinated by the light effect and the properties of the cocooning material.

The ceiling light comes with two light sockets. Nice state, light corrosion effects at the outside, not really visible when the lamp is placed.
