Big oblong low stoneware bowl or centerpiece made in Denmark. Created by Danish ceramist Thomas Toft in the 1950s or 1960s.

It has a glazed inside and a rough textured exterior. The rough dark brown chamotte clay on the outside contrasts with the shiny glaze on the inside of the bowl. It shows a hand-painted geometrical design with botanical inspirations.

The colors are different shades of green, brown and black.

Thomas Toft (1930-2015) established his studio in 1957 in Bisserup, Denmark, where he lived and worked for 50 years. His works are relatively rare but included vases, vessels, bowls, trays and some lamps.

The patterns are usually geometric abstractions, sometimes stylised representations of fauna or flora. He often plays with the contrast between a rough coffee chamotte stoneware on the outside and the glossy glazes inside of his bowls and trays.

The dish is signed on the back with the initials TT.  Nice condition, no chips or cracks. Just one small spot is visible in the glaze.
